Introduction
Yes, the world is turbulent and in turmoil. Chaos and destruction abound. Human suffering is evident and abundant in nearly any direction one chooses to look -- if we but open our eyes.
This group relation conference in the Transforming Open System series at Teachers College explores two fundamental questions:
How might we invite ourselves to greater consciousness about life?
How do we meet accept the authority to bring leadership to the challenges we now face in the world?
While we will explore the deeper unconscious processes that impact our capacity to work effectively in open systems, this conference will also offer reflective spaces to be with the intention to find other ways to live, love, work, and be in the world.

CONSCIOUSNESS, AUTHORITY, LEADERSHIP, and LIFE also dares to consider the question of what would happen if we were to study shadow and light, embattlement and embrace, hate and healing...in terms of a fuller encounter with LIFE itself.
In most other respects, on the surface, this conference will look like many other group relations conferences--- mall Study Group, Large Study Group, World Event, and Application Groups. One addition, the Open Meditation, will ask us each day to take a pause and reflect collectively on what we are learning and how we can find and feel our collective center amid the potential turbulence and turmoil.
