Introduction

Participation in this event offers you, your organisation and your community the opportunity to learn about leadership, accountability and authority in complex systems, understanding your role and how your actions can matter in your community or your organisation as well as in the wider global society.

As a manager, the event offers you and members of your organisation a way to explore aspects of ethical leadership. This is an experiential event to work different aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Corporate Citizenship, Social Inclusion and Reflective Citizenship through understanding the roles of, and relationships with Native Community leaders such as those of the Amazon. The experience will enable you to co-design in relevant fields. We will work profoundly on the development of leadership through the analysis of the person in role within their organisation and in interaction with their context and environment.

As a citizen or professional, it offers you an experience to develop awareness of what it means to be citizen and a
professional in your country, developing responsible leadership with social and ecological consciousness.
As a representative from ethnic groups of the Peruvian Amazon, it offers you different ways to work on healthy
integration with modern world and develop leadership and entrepreneurial capabilities.

As a member of the Programme Beca 18, it offers you and the members of the University and Communities you represent with a range of unique opportunities to explore the dynamics of social inclusion within communities, organisations and government and the larger national and international society. As a student participation allows you to explore and develop psychological resilience for the process of adaptation within the university life; As a faculty participation allows you to increase your awareness of the social dynamics in order to develop strategies for inclusive education and policies for the integration of native students with in your organisation.

For all, it becomes possible to rethink and rework historical or racial prejudices. The conference provides an opportunity for encounters among leaders, citizens, professionals, managers and students; Peruvian people from diverse origins, and those from other countries. opening to
each a unique chance to explore the meaning and the consequences of human diversity, and to learn about otherness in a fruitful way.

These discoveries can transform your way of working together, of crossing differences with an/other in order to
enhance your individual and collective creativity, not only within the conference, but also in your back home communities and organisations.

Consequently, this event offer you unique opportunities to explore the meaning and the consequences of human diversity to learn about “the other”; and “alterity” in a fruitful way.

Would you like to find a different way to exercise leadership and authority in your community, in your organisation in an accountable and sustainable way as it
relates to its human and ecological environment? Would you like to explore this while you find a purposeful way to work on the relationships between you, your organisation and native Amazonian communities?

In a world full of rapid transitions, it is important to explore and learn how to contribute in a way that promotes sustainable solutions in dimensions which are organisational as well as ecological, psychical and cultural.

Entering into this exploration requires knowledge about the complex paradoxes within and between different perspectives. It also requires courage to act in an innovative and more balanced way without the safety of fixed positions or rigid roles.

On the one hand, as a western manager or manager from the Global North, you may think that managing sustainable transitions in Amazonia is too far away and someone else’s problem. And as a Native Community leader, you may think that management issues of national or international organisations may appear as very distant. Seen from afar, these dynamics appear to be too complicated and messy to intertwine in.

On the other hand, realistic hope is built of skillful participation in connecting these themes, based on accountability, compassion and love. The integration and encounter among different perspectives in order to understand the world we inhabit.

Concepts

Some concepts used by the staff to make sense of what is happening:

Here and Now: the space for learning and transformation Authority: the right to take action and make decisions on behalf of a group. A right that can come from various sources, such as from above, below, formally or informally.

Boundaries: separate and connect what is inside and outside. This includes boundaries between organizations and their environments, between sub- groups, between the individual and the group, and between the person and role.

Hope: “a leap on expectation.” Serves as a drive for emotions and human wellbeing. Concept with solid roots in systemic thinking through self-organisation and complex adaptation. The capacity for hope is develop within the first 18 months of life when there is an effective development process of the tension between trust and mistrust. (Erikson,E. 1968)

Leadership: exercised by offering meaningful direction that recognizes the needs of an organization or group. In a group can be thought of as representing or embodying the function of the group, especially its major function or primary task.

Love: as a resource to take care of oneself, the Other and the environment instead of as an idealistic and romantic feeling.

Primary Task: activities that must be accomplished for an organization to achieve its purposes.

Purpose: Emerging construct that requires constant personal and collective discernment during the processes of role taking. Its exploration increases human potential and explores questions such as why do I take a role in a system at a given point in time? Why a given organisational system exists? How does it contributes to the larger ecological system to which it belongs?

Radical Hope: Anticipated a good for which those who have the hope and yet lack the appropriate concepts to understand it. This hope is directed toward a future goodness that transcends the current ability to understand what it is...”Lear, J (2006)

Role: A particular part of the overall task that is assigned to, or taken up by, an individual, a group or an organization.

Spirit of Inquiry: Co-creation that encourages the openness to what emerges remaining curious and grateful to the lived experience without pre-judgment.

Sustainability: The search for the significative co-
existence within human systems and among human and ecological systems. (Mainteny, P. 2000)

Methodology

We will work in non-conventional ways of learning requiring no specific type of education. The arts will be central to our working approach incorporating musical creation, dancing, crafting, painting among other dimensions for the exploration of cultural life. In this learning process, feelings, dreams, physical sensations, fantasies, wishes and desires will be resources offering each participant a valuable source of information about themselves and about the community as a system.

This is a unique opportunity to reflect about the human ecology of the Amazon, helping to document its wisdom before its lost.

Participants will share a number of sessions to work on the conference primary task and will also have the opportunity to work in different sub- conference structures according to their different experiences and areas of interest.

Participants will share a number of sessions from 09:00 a 20:00 in order to work on the primary task and they will have an opportunity to work on their different areas of interest. Additionally, they will be invited to participated on creating their own systems of work according to their different interests, needs and desires.

All together we will create an audiovisual research documentary to systematise our learning.

Full immersion for learning in real time
The Tavistock Group Relations Methodology “contributes to the capacity to develop and retain mental space of a benign, creative, contained and constructive nature” (Young, R; 1994). This mental space offer the possibility for emotional growth through the acceptance of the socially constructed aspects of the external reality of an individual and his/her community/group/organisation/society by confronting projection and denial at organisational and societal levels.

This event is a method for the study of community relations and the development of leadership capabilities. It requires full immersion and it takes the shape of a temporary cooperative that builds an experiential learning community with sustainable outcomes. We integrate different methodologies of the social sciences, including action research and applied psychoanalysis to work on the field of sustainability with an open systems approach. Our core praxis will build over the Tavistock Tradition of Group Relations and Mini-society Conferences. We have developed three interconnected sub-conferences offering multiple opportunities for experiential learning.

Each participant will take up different roles and responsibilities by participating in the design of various social and organisational structures. Inside the event, we will reflect upon reality as it is experience learning of the different dynamics involved in the process of role taking in turbulent environments and the dynamics of interdependency in complex systems.

Together we'll enquire into our development as a learning organization.
